Central Texas is becoming increasingly diverse, with the white population growing in the five-county Austin metropolitan area. In Hays and Williamson counties, migration accounted for 84 percent and 80 percent of population growth, respectively, while births accounted for 16 percent and 20 percent. In Travis County, migration was the main contributor to population growth at 52 percent. After eight months of research and evaluation, a consultant made recommendations on how CEI could become more diverse, equitable and inclusive in all areas. A three-year DEI plan was then developed based on these recommendations. Employee data from CEI is based on information from people who have self-declared their past or current jobs at the organization. The most common highest grade level for employees at CEI is a bachelor's degree, with 83 percent of employees having at least a bachelor's degree.
